My Journey

Finding My Path

During my junior year at NC A&T, I was required to receive a vaccine to register for my classes. That vaccine nearly took my life. I was lucky that Body Ecology was a short ride from campus. Artis Hinson (ibae), being the staple of natural health that he was, saved my life. With Art's help and guidance, I was able to recover and set a new path for my life's journey. I learned the power and significance of a raw diet and how profound the concept of "you are what you eat" is. This is where my Natural Health studies began. Thank you, Art!

My African Mind

While living in Richmond, VA, I met Dr. Laila Afrika during a lecture. I remember not agreeing with him on carrots and hybrid vegetables. He showed me how much of the information we access is centered on others’ biology rather than on people like us. I started to study through a more culturally relevant lens and shifted my thinking. I continued to study with my mentors and earned my certificate in Holistic Health Counseling through the International Board of African Thinkers, Traditional Priests, Priestesses, Healers & Religion, Inc. Knowing the politics of the time and with my training, my mentors urged me to register as a Naturopath. I did so in 2007.

The Process of Evolution

In 2011, I met my now Godparents and instantly knew Ile Muyiwa was home. With their guidance, mentorship, and love, I've grown in so many ways. They have taught me how to heal and empowered me to step into my purpose and embrace my destiny. Words can not begin to express my gratitude. As a result of so much work, I'm a proud Custodian of Culture. As a member of Egbe Moremi, I am committed to cultivating Sisterhood in its most divine cultural expression. As a new initiate of the Egugun Society, I look forward to being a guide back to the Ancestors.

Resilience, Roots, and Revenue: A Journey in Growth

Transitioning through different professional landscapes isn't just about adding lines to a resume; it’s about the grit required to build something from the ground up while the world—and your own life—is changing rapidly. My journey over the last few years has been a masterclass in diversification, timing, and the art of the "pivot."

The Birth of a Vision Amidst a Global Shift

In early 2020, I opened the doors to my holistic health store. Launching a brick-and-mortar business during a period of global uncertainty required more than just a business plan; it required a deep commitment to community wellness and the agility to adapt to a shifting retail landscape.
To sharpen my operational edge, I concurrently completed the New Century IDA Small Business Development program in 2001. Balancing the daily demands of a startup with business training solidified my foundation in sustainable growth and strategic planning.

Cultivating Mastery Under Pressure

True professional development often happens in the margins. While managing my growing family and dreaming of raising chickens and goats, I felt a pull toward the source of wellness: the land itself. I enrolled in Farm School through the Forsyth County Cooperative Extension to master the technicalities of agricultural production and land management.
To complement this, I pursued a Beekeeping certification through the Beekeepers Association of Forsyth County. Understanding the intricate ecosystems of pollinators isn't just a hobby; it’s an exercise in patience, precision, and environmental stewardship.
What makes this chapter particularly meaningful is the timing. I completed Farm School while pregnant with my youngest child. This period redefined my understanding of "multitasking." It taught me that high-level professional execution and personal milestones don't have to be mutually exclusive; in fact, they often fuel one another.

The Intersection of Health and Heritage

Today, my professional identity is a unique blend of entrepreneurship, holistic health, and sustainable agriculture. By bridging the gap between a retail storefront and the literal "roots" of the industry, I’ve developed a holistic perspective on what it means to build a brand that lasts.
The takeaway? Don't wait for the "perfect" time to level up. Whether you are launching a business in a pandemic or studying agriculture while growing a family, the most rewarding accomplishments are the ones earned when the stakes are highest.

"Growth is never by mere chance; it is the result of forces working together."
